Trails: Middle Sister Trail
Pat and I climbed Chocorua’s Middle Sister Trail and the bottom half of the Carter Ledge Trail for some redlining miles yesterday. It was cloudy, very wet, and windy with a nip in the air but we had some beautiful views. I find that the very simple act of putting one foot in front of the other for a full day takes me out of my head and into the moment. I have to concentrate on not stepping on slippery leaf-covered roots or wet mossy rocks, so I’m right there, every second. On hiking days I get 10+ hours with my friend, Pat, out in the silence and glory of nature where I have a reprieve from the worries and To Do List that I normally carry through life. And it’s not just a reprieve, it’s more than that. It holds moments of awe when I stop to notice the beauty around me. After we came down the mountain, the sun came out and we took a picture of Chocorua in the fall slender. Looking at the mountain and thinking about the fact that we were just up there, I am filled with gratitude. How lucky are we?
