Trails: Drake’s Brook Trail, Fletcher Cascades Trail
Friday, Pat and I got some red lining miles in on the Drakes Brook and Fletcher Cascades Trails. The snow was soft and fluffy, the trail was all packed out, the sun was shining and the views were beautiful. The sound of our snowshoes squeaking in the snow made it hard to hear each other as we hiked up towards Sandwich Dome. So I spent much of the hike quietly being grateful. Grateful for the strength in my body that gets me into the mountains, grateful for the feeling of the sun warming my face when we came out of the shadows and into the light, grateful that I know Pat so well that just the sounds of silence and squeaking snowshoes is comfortable. I was even grateful for the elevation gain, until we got to the last part of the Fletcher Cascades Trail and it went straight up and I started to swear. I was grateful to see the car, grateful for the car’s working heater and for the car’s seat that held me as I let my body unwind. What a gift to have the time to be out in nature with nothing to do but be grateful.
