Yesterday Pat and I hiked the White Ledge Loop Trail as part of our redlining quest. I hike because it feeds me in so many ways, and this hike was no different. The hike was a spiritual banquet — there was the warmth of our friendship reconnecting after a short hiking break, the intense silence all around us that seeps in and quiets us inside, the smell of warm pine needles crunching under our feet, the physical effort to move my body up the mountain, the warmth of the sun on our faces and the breeze gently drying our sweat, the cairns that show us the way as they have shown hundreds of hikers before us, the blue mountains in the distance with lighter blue mountains behind them with even lighter blue mountains far away that fade into the blue sky, and best of all, the warm sweet juicy blueberries that graced the sides of the trail. What a feast!

I have this spiritual hunger inside of me that is ferocious, but a hike quells the urgency in me and reminds me that what I seek is all around me.
