Pat and I climbed Peaked and Middle Mountains in Conway yesterday. We were in the midst of gratitude-inducing beauty. The snow-covered branches looked like lace against the blue sky. The trail meandered through soft white powder that glistened in the sun. It made me draw in my breath and say, “soooo pretty!” over and over. But after the breath and the comments, there was a moment when I stood still and let the beauty into me instead of holding it at bay with words or movement. It made a little warm place inside me and stayed. Beauty — not only all around us, but in us.
